Law Enforcement Center
Our Law Enforcement Center opened in January 2002. The Law Enforcement Center houses the Sheriff's Office, Detention Center and Magistrate's Office. Our Law enforcement Center is the product of a 12 year project of Sheriff Goodwin, Magistrate Ferguson, Abbeville County Council and SCDC Officials to update and combine the Previous Sheriff's Office, Magistrates Office and County Jail which all in seperate County building. The new facility is a "State-of-the Art" and will easily carry Abbeville County far into the future. The Law Enforcement Center is located just off of Hwy 28 By-pass, East of Abbeville off of Hwy 72.
Detention Center
The Detention Center is under jurisdiction of Sheriff Charles H. Goodwin and can currently house 105 adult inmates, 44 pre-sentenced, 38 sentenced, 6 maximum security, 2 special management and 15 female inmates. In addition to the Detention Center we also manage the County Prison which houses up to 38 sentenced State and County inmates who are assigned supervised work details throughout the County.

Qualifications include: 21 year of age, High School graduate or certificate of GED, clear criminal and driving record, a clear credit report and be in good physical condition. Applicants must be able to attend and successfully complete a 9 week Basic Law Enforcement training course as well as other advanced classes at the SC Criminal Justice Academy.
